Why You Can’t Trust Anything You See on the News (or on any screen anywhere!)

While this video creates the impression that this technology is new, intelligence and Hollywood have been using technology far-advanced to this for many years; possibly decades.

This is what a small team of computer scientists came up with – using facial capture and facial reenactment software, students in college are able to, in real-time, create facial expressions and even insert audio, to make you believe that people like world leaders are doing and saying things that are not happening - so imagine what’s available for use by the CIA, NSA, MOSSAD (etc.), and all of their mainstream media propaganda arms.

See this article, When Seeing and Hearing Isn’t Believing, from 1999 (nearly 20 years ago!), which details technology which can, in near real time, clone speech patterns and develop an accurate facsimile. All by taking just a 10-minute digital recording of someone’s voice.

God damnit. I thought there was more time. Wellp, game over.

    Technology is terrifying.

ok so instead of ignoring this like a lot of left wing blogs because of the “question the media” thing it has going on, im just gonna say it

    Question the media

it may very well be telling 100% acurate, unadulterated news, but it may be unintentionally (or intentionally) spreading false information. Now, this doesnt mean you should scream “Fake News”, don your tinfoil hats and run to the corner. No, it means you should take your 5th grade teachers advice and fact check.

I know many of us here on tumblr already do that, because, well, tumblr. But it is good to be thourough in doing it. Fact checkin and cross examining sources, and keeping up on both the latest news and older news and how acurate the reports are/were can keep you informed on the truth.

A good rule of thumb is to never put 100% of your faith in either of two things: random things on the internet, and the government. Always cross examine the government with independent media, and always cross examine independant media with other media sources AND the government.

    Research is your friend!!!

Technology like this is real amd fascinating, but it also has an extreme potential for danger in both propoganda and the spread of false i formation. Staying educated is going to become increasingly harder over the next few years, but it is possible.

This is cray. Protect ya neck.

I thought the same concept could be applied to audio, so I’m not surprised.

I make it very clear from the beginning that I don’t share my man. Even if we’re just talking, I don’t share lol. Now, I’m in no way forcing anyone to be with me or into an exclusive relationship if you don’t want one. Just know what you’re walking into before you hmu.

Carsten Höller, ‘Giant Psycho Tank’, 1999

In Höller’s Psycho Tank, visitors will float weightlessly in a sensory deprivation pool, providing a strange out-of-body experience. In these scenarios, as in his other work, Höller treats the viewer as the subject and audience for his radical and disorienting experiments.

Bird enthusiast Skjalg-Helmer Vian (14) from Vadsø, Norway was reading about the Grey-headed chickadee (Poecile cinctus) when an actual one swooped in to see what all the fuss was about. The boy’s father, Geir Arne Vian captured, the amazing photo opp and the image has been circulating online as of late.
